Naturale II - New Release!
Naturale II - New Release!
Our brand new autumnal palette of twelve exquisite earth, mineral and plant based pigments from the Mediterranean basin to the forests of Sumatra, the Naturale II expands our collection of handmade natural pigment watercolors!
Some highlights of the collection are Buckthorn berry green (NG2), the historical sap green made from ripe buckthorn berries and weld, a vibrant Italian raw sienna from Badia (PY43), and our genuine Lapis lazuli, extra fine.
Jarosite (PY43) from Cyprus, a limonite famous for its unique hue, and Dragon’s blood (NR31) a surprising red made from the resin of the Daemonorops draco plant and other rattan palms. This exotic red was used by the early Greeks, Romans and Arabs in art and medicine. Medieval encyclopedias claimed it to be the blood of actual elephants and dragons who had died in mortal combat!
Other favorites include Arancio di Castiglia (PR102) a Bauxite orange-red ochre from sun-burnt Castille in the heart of Spain, Epidote, a yellow-green mineral that can be found on the Isola di Elba and in Tuscany. By special request, we have included Potter's Pink (PR233), a granulating, naturalistic pink tone invented by an unknown Staffordshire potter in about 1780.
Handmade watercolor set of twelve individually wrapped half pans in a metal tin with two mixing surfaces, a DIY color chart printed on Arches watercolor paper, and an artist grade pocket brush by Tintoretto size 6. The Naturale 12 handmade watercolor set is packaged with original marbled paper by Florentine artisan workshop Giulio Giannini e Figlio and comes inside an elegant gift box.

Made from premium pigments, pure gum arabic crystals, local acacia honey, rosemary essential oil and a natural preservative. Every batch of paint is mulled by hand on a glass slab and poured into pans. Unlike commercially "extruded" paints, each pan is poured multiple times and dries over two to three weeks. This intensive process creates a very pigmented, luminous and pure paint that activates easily when wet.
A. Gallo Colors are 100% handmade. Pans may contain small imperfections like tiny bubbles and minor blemishes. This does not effect the quality of the paint and is a sign of the human touch that goes into making each and every unique pan!
Half pans present a choking hazard and are not intended for use by children. Please also keep out of reach of pets. A. Gallo Colors are all cadmium, cobalt, lead and mercury free.
